The 14 Stations of the Cross

The “Stations of the Cross” grew out of an ancient liturgy and describe 14 stops along the way to Golgotha. These stops follow Jesus from the moment he is condemned to death until his entombment. Traditionally, the faithful prayed the liturgy alongside visual depictions of the Stations, where the person praying could literally stop and contemplate each event of Christ’s Passion.

The 14 Stations

The Stations of the Cross or the Way of the Cross, refers to a series of images depicting Jesus Christ on the day of his crucifixion. During Lent, and especially on Good Friday, the faithful travel from image to image, in order, stopping at each station to say the selected prayers and reflections in a spirit of reparation for the sufferings and insults that Jesus endured during his passion. Commonly found in Catholic Churches, other denominations also work with these images during Lent and Holy Week.

Our Catholic school invested in Laura's 14 Stations collection last year, and it was our best liturgical decision. The students connect with these images in ways our previous stations never achieved. The authentic representation has sparked thoughtful discussions about history and faith, while the artistic quality makes each station a genuine work of art rather than just a devotional object.
