Mami Wata

Mami Wata (Mamma Water) is a water spirit venerated in West, Central, and Southern Africa, and in the African diaspora in the Americas. Often appearing with the head and torso of a woman and the tail of a fish, Mami Wata straddles earth and water, culture and nature.

In 2018, The American Museum of Natural History brought this image to life as a sculpture that is included in their traveling exhibit, Mini Mythic. It was very exciting to see her come alive!
